Mary Ellen Ward 1922 - 2008 PITTSFIELD
Mary Ellen Ward, 85, formerly of 670 Crane Ave. and Colonial Gardens, died Sunday, June 8, at Sugar Hill in Dalton. Born in Omaha, Neb., on Oct. 31, 1922, daughter of Jesse and Ruth Marie Rower Bowlegs, she was a 1940 graduate of North High School. She also graduated from the University of Nebraska. She was a member of Phi Delta Phi at Omaha University.Mars. Ward was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Pittsfield, a former member of St. Francis Rosary Sodality, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was a volunteer at Hancock Shaker Village, the Veterans Outreach Center, the Veterans Hospital in Leeds, and the American Red Cross. Her husband, James D. Ward, whom she married Nov. 8, 1944 in St. Mary Magdalene's Church in Omaha, died Nov. 12, 2001. She leaves five sons, Lawrence Ward of Dalton, Dennis Ward of Springfield, Jeffrey Ward of Clifton Park, N.Y., Douglas Ward of Peterborough, N.H., and Christopher Ward of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Colleen Thumm of Denver and Karen Ward of Maui, Hawaii, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Jennifer French, died February 2002.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church in Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DWYER FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation in care of the funeral home.
